BBVA Compass Foundation Makes Donation in Support of Aero CHI Program
On Friday, May 26, 2017, at Hallmark University’s College of Aeronautics, representatives from BBVA Compass and Hallmark University united for a picture to commemorate BBVA Compass Foundation’s $5,000 grant towards Hallmark’s Aero CHI program. The Aero CHI program is an FAA approved early college program that prepares San Antonio high school students for a career in aerospace manufacturing and maintenance.
“Hallmark’s Aero CHI program meets a specific unmet need for an early college aerospace program in San Antonio’s second-largest school district, NEISD,” stated Hallmark’s President, Brent Fessler. “We are grateful that BBVA Compass Foundation recognized this is an important opportunity to invest in the San Antonio community.”
According to BBVA’s website, “The BBVA Compass Foundation demonstrates our support to the communities where we have a presence. The Foundation provides charitable grants to qualified nonprofit organizations – a long and proud tradition of the many banks that came together to create the company we are today. […] Each community has unique needs and opportunities. We designate the majority of our community giving dollars to addressing these needs.”
In addition to BBVA’s donation being beneficial to the students, it will sponsor, it serves as a tip of the hat to Hallmark University for being a nonprofit that is meeting community needs. When considering the requirements for receiving a charitable grant, BBVA’s website states that organizations must “have broad community support and address specific needs, and demonstrate fiscal and administrative stability.” Additionally, for nonprofits in the focus area of education, organizations should “address pressing needs in Pre-K – 12 education through public school-sponsored or facilitated curriculum-based programs, and facilitate merit-based access to higher education for underrepresented groups.”
